My Background

I have been weight training for 22 years and have been a Personal Trainer for about half that time, having worked first in Boston and now in Provincetown. A lifelong athlete, I have been involved in competitive and non-competitive sports including swimming, tennis, running, basketball, and of course, weight training. While my last bodybuilding competition was in 1990, I still weight train seriously (5 days/wk) and run (4 days/wk with my two dogs, Samantha and Frey).

I work with all age ranges (from teenagers to the elderly), with all experience levels (from novices to those who want to build serious mass), with those who prefer to workout in their home, and with those in a nursing home.

Before I moved to Provincetown in 2003, I was a mid-level operations manager in various software companies in the Boston area. I have an M.B.A. from Simmons College (Boston, MA), an M.A. in Teaching English also from Simmons College, and a B.A. in English from Wheaton College (Norton, MA).

How I Approach Personal Training

First, I meet with you to do a free-of-charge “intake,” where we discuss your goals, experience, heath issues, commitment, and nutrition. With that information, I develop a fitness program to meet your goals. (Generally, a program includes both weight training and some form of cardio work.) Then, I take you through the program and explain what you’re doing and why, always focusing on correct form and safety. You may choose to work with me in any number of ways: just to develop a program, on an on-going basis, or on a “check-in” basis.

My Philosophy

Exercise is essential. And it’s tough. It can also be a lot of fun and awfully rewarding. If you’re bored, it’s time to shake things up! If you’re consistent with your exercise and nutrition program, I guarantee that you will see and feel the results.
